Streamlined User Account Creation
Posted on Tue, Mar 20, 2012
We've streamlined the process for user account creation. Usernames are no longer required, in favor of email addresses. Click to read more!
Reducing the friction involved in creating an account on your website means more signups and more participation. To that end, we've made a few changes that should make your users happier:
-
The logon page now asks for email address (but will accept either email or username). This is good because your users won't need to remember another piece of information, one that doesn't serve any purpose (since email addresses are unique in your system).
-
The account creation page is now super-slim: just name and email. Your site will assign a password, emailing the user.
-
Automatically generated passwords are now more secure but also easier to remember. Examples: reason?bank5% and bring9beat8a* instead of 55a58414 and 0d25e9e8.
